Mark Farmer’s report ‘Modernise or Die’ makes it clear that unless the industry faces the issue of skills shortages, poor training, lack of leadership and development of people construction will not be able to deliver. It will, in effect, cease to exist as a viable industry.

Other sectors such as manufacturing have grasped the benefits of the circular economy approach – moving away from straight line thinking – construction is still struggling with the concept and will risk being left behind if it doesn’t wake up and smell the coffee.

The construction industry has failed to invest in training

Productivity is poor. We still waste far too much of our resources and we are obsessed with short term outcomes and give little consideration to adding value. Adoption of circular economy principles can address these failings

Welsh construction needs a building revolution

Theory needs to become reality fast. We must embrace the circular economy to become a £12B industry and build a legacy fit for the future. As David Cheshire argues, we need to drive a building revolution.

Stop doing what we have always done. Rethink construction and build a better wales. Now.

Teitl: Sut allwn ni adeiladu heddiw y Gymru a ddymunwn yfory?
Dyddiad:
Dydd Mercher 3 Mai
Lleoliad:
Caerdydd
Amser:
9.30 - 1
Cost:
£75 + TAW – disgownt 50% i aelodau’r clwb; disgownt ar gael i’r Sector Cyhoeddus – holwch os gwelwch yn dda

Mae adroddiad Mark Farmer ‘Modernise or Die’ yn datgan yn glir fod raid i’r diwydiant adeiladu ddelio â materion fel prinder sgiliau, hyfforddiant gwael, diffyg arweiniad a datblygu pobl os yw’r sector i lwyddo. Heb wneud hynny, ni fydd yn parhau i fod yn hyfyw.

Mae meysydd eraill fel y diwydiant cynhyrchu wedi sylweddoli manteision yr economi gylchol – a symud ymaith oddi wrth feddwl mewn llinellau syth. Mae’r sector adeiladu ar y llaw arall yn ei chael yn anodd derbyn cysyniad yr economi gylchol. Ac mae mewn perygl o gael i adael ar ôl os nad yw’n deffro a sylweddoli be’ ‘di be’.

Nid yw’r diwydiant adeiladu wedi buddsoddi mewn hyfforddiant.

Mae cynhyrchedd yn isel. Rydym yn dal i wastraffu llawer gormod o’n hadnoddau. Mae gennym obsesiwn ynglŷn â deilliannau tymor byr ac ni roddwn fawr ddim sylw i ychwanegu gwerth.

Rhaid gweddnewid diwydiant adeiladu Cymru

Mae angen troi theorïau’n ffaith, a gwneud hynny’n gyflym. Rhaid inni ddilyn arferion yr economi gylchol er mwyn datblygu’n ddiwydiant £12B, a chreu etifeddiaeth deilwng i genedlaethau’r dyfodol. Fel y dadleua David Cheshire, rhaid gweddnewid y diwydiant adeiladu.

Rhaid stopio gwneud pethau am mai dyma fel y gwnaethom erioed. Rhaid ailfeddwl ein dulliau adeiladu ac adeiladu Cymru well. A gwneud hynny’n awr!
