Introduction from Milica Kitson

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2013. If you read the Western Mail last week or saw any of the positive news about our industry you will know that the next twelve months offer a great opportunity for Welsh construction to flourish.  Whether it is work in Anglesey on the new power station at Wylfa, the retrofitting of Welsh housing or playing a role in developing the infrastructure of Wales – the opportunities are there for the whole Welsh built environment.

At CEW we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that these projects are procured and managed correctly. CEW was part of the team that helped define the Forward Programme of Work, a visible pipeline of work that allows the construction supply chain to prepare and invest ahead of the procurement process.

Throughout 2012 CEW led the Value Wales Procurement Steering Group working alongside industry and public sector representatives to develop the Welsh Government Procurement Strategy. No matter whether it is with regard to procurement, site waste management or pursuing energy efficiency we are 100% behind Welsh construction.

Watch this space because there’s more to follow. Building Information Modelling, the Sustainable Development Bill, advances in the Exemplar Programme and of course the 2013 CEW Awards – it is all coming down the line in the next twelve months.
