How Good is your Forward Planning?

Are you up to speed with the forward programme of planned local authority capital works? If not then you need to be, so find out how.

Visibility of work is crucial for everyone in construction to allocate resources, people and simply to be able to plan. It was also a critical element within the No Turning Back recommendations and the actions of the Construction Procurement Task Group.

Improving the visibility of public sector construction programmes is a continual request from industry so that they can better plan their businesses and better meets the needs of their clients. In responding to this need CEW, working in partnership with the WLGA, have been producing, since 2012, an annual 4 year forward programme of planned local authority capital works.

This year’s published forward programme provides visibility to almost £3bn of local authority capital investment in Wales over the next four years.

It also provides a link to a new programme, based on the major local authority projects in the WIIP pipeline, to further assist visibility of the pipeline in Wales.

Infrastructure Intelligence: Hancock Tells Industry: Stop Talking, Get on With the Job

Back in July many pundits in the UK construction industry were very critical and some worried about the Government’s decisions regarding its policies on construction. The idea of ending the role of Construction Advisor seems short sighted. The restructure of the Construction Leadership Council appeared ham-fisted. But what it signalled was that the industry is now dealing with a Conservative Government that has a clear sense of purpose – as well as a majority.

As Graham Watts, CEO of the Construction Industry Council says: “Partnership between Government and industry is dead. The new mantra is dialogue.”

Last week Cabinet Office head of construction David Hancock headlined on Tuesday at the CIC Construction Summit. He explained the new government’s aims and what industry should expect from the next five years ahead of his speech in an interview with Infrastructure Intelligence and attendees at a Griffiths & Armour breakfast event.

What Is the CCG?

The Construction Clients’ Group (CCG) is at the heart of Constructing Excellence but how do you know about what it does?

The Construction Clients’ Group is the body for all public and private sector construction clients’, bringing them together to improve the value for money they get. It is the only dedicated client body combining public and private sector clients promoting best practice and industry improvements.

That means it has a role to play right across the UK in all aspects of the sector. The CCG aim to:

  • Enable clients to get better value from construction procurement
  • Provide a learning and sharing network for clients
  • Promote best practice and industry improvement
  • Provide a portfolio of products and services for members
  • Influence government policy and forthcoming legislation
  • Provide a collective client voice in key representative groups for private and public sector clients and client representatives
  • To increase client competence in the procurement of built assets
  • A better built environment and return on your investments
