A building holds materials that at end of life could be used in new construction.
Design for Deconstruction (D4D) principles have evolved to address disassembly at design stage. It is a way of thinking to maximise the flexibility of building resources, avoid waste and ensure reuse. It is an environmentally responsible approach to design and accounts for the future of buildings.
Welsh Government policy is to move Towards Zero Waste this will necessitate principles of designing out waste and Design for Deconstruction (D4D)
D4D is an overarching action in the Welsh Governments Construction and Demolition Sector Plan. Constructing Excellence in Wales has been given the task of undertaking a study into the current use of D4D. As part of this study we are looking for construction industry feedback with regards to the existing application of D4D methods and future proposals.
