It is official: UK Government statistics have shown what construction professionals have instinctively known for a long time – our industry is driving the country’s economic improvement. What’s more the statistics from RIBA and RICS indicates that there is a strong pipeline of work coming down the line. Whilst the data is applicable across the UK, recent headlines in Wales are proof that things really are picking up.

Civil engineering Jones Bros has secured part of a £100m contract to build Wales’ biggest wind farm, a project that might provide more than 350 Welsh jobs over the next two years. Jones Bros will work in partnership with Balfour Beatty to deliver the construction civil and electrical works for the flagship 76 turbine Pen y Cymoedd project.

This is just one example of the major projects planned for Wales. Meanwhile, our SMEs and small builders continue to refurbish, repair and build homes and other facilities across Wales. It is all good news but there is still one important thing to remember. We must build sustainably, that means managing waste and seeking to provide benefits to local communities.
