Welcome to our E-Bulletin

Swansea Bay Tidal Lagoon is one of the worlds’ most exciting projects, not just Wales. So it is perfectly understandable that we all want to keep abreast of what’s going on. Our article in this week’s newsletter gives you some facts but it is looking at the whole package put together by Construction News (you might want to check your subscription first) as well to get the full picture. Read the full feature and watch the video as Jack Simpson checks out the proposed site first hand and finds out more about the proposals from construction director Mike Unsworth.

One way or another, we expect the Swansea Bay scheme to go ahead. Indeed, so will many other projects, despite short term doubts or worries about investment in the post Brexit referendum phase we are all experiencing. Economic performance generally is slowing but for how long, we are not sure. No one is forecasting confidently right now but one thing is for sure – now is not the time to move away from our commitment to best practice and the concept of value.

It was lovely to see that everyone attending the CEW Awards a few weeks ago has already paid for their tickets! In an industry notorious for poor payment to stump up so promptly is not just fantastic news for the events management team (thanks to Sue and her team again) but also a clear indication that CEW stakeholders do walk the talk.

I am sure that prompt payment is just the tip of the iceberg that is best practice in Wales!

For an insight into what comprises the rest of best practice in Wales then please take time to read our latest Annual Report. We have changed the format to reflect how aligned the work of CEW is to the Future Generations Act and we have made a point of highlighting the impact of the CEW Awards over the past ten years. The data we have gathered makes a very strong case for collaborative procurement.

Lastly, I want to mention G4C Wales and the great work they do linking new professionals and the younger generation in construction. Last week they held a joint BBQ with CIAT and Design Circle and as well as having a fun time and networking hard, they also managed to raise £320 for Shelter Cymru

Have a great summer.
