Introduction from Milica Kitson, CEW
2013 has started well for CEW and construction generally in Wales. There has been a great deal going on, positive changes and plenty of activity for which to prepare. But for us the most positive news is that we have secured Government funding for the next two years.

The Minister for Environment and Sustainable Development, John Griffiths A.M. has approved two years’ core funding for £455,000 for 2013/14 and 2014/15. This is in recognition of the fact that, since 2003, we have been helping the industry to rethink construction, driving major productivity improvements and cultural changes, as well as best practice across all sectors of the construction industry in Wales and developing links and partnerships with key organisations in, and outside of, Wales.

We also have more good news with the launch next month of BEST – Built Environment Sustainability Training – offering courses which will help develop knowledge, skills and best practice, particularly in construction, energy, waste and water. CEW is one of the partners in this important programme, which is led by the Welsh School of Architecture at Cardiff University.

We also have news of our workshops on the proposed Site Waste Management Plans – SWMP will be central to ensuring the construction industry takes a sustainable approach to all new build and demolition.

And, if this wasn’t good news enough, there is still time to enter our prestigious awards!
