edoc

From January 2014 waste producers and handlers can document their waste transfers online using edoc (electronic duty of care). This new system is being developed by a partnership of waste sector and UK government bodies (including CIWM and Welsh Government).

The objective is to produce a more efficient, cost-effective alternative to paper waste transfer notes (WTN’s). It is estimated that around 23 million new WTNs are created in the UK every year. The online format will be more accessible and allow the WTN’s to be organised, searched, interrogated and retrieved quicker and easier. It will also provide a valuable source of business data as more internal business reports and summary waste data can be generated from the system.

The information will be readily available to improve understanding and future planning for waste arising across the U.K.

The use of edoc will not be mandatory, but it is hoped that the benefits offered will encourage businesses to make the move online.
