Welcome to the CEW E-Bulletin

Optimism in the market place is still high, albeit there are some mixed feelings still around tender processes, financing projects and the management of supply chains. So, would it not be great to have some security around payment?

That is the whole idea behind the Government’s backing of the project bank accounts. Three pilot schemes have been picked out and if they succeed then it will hopefully benefit the whole supply chain and perhaps, reach across into private sector work as well as public contracts. Either way, the principle is a good one and one to be applauded.

But like all things, it will only work is the concept is bought into throughout the entire supply chain and driven by the client. That requires collaboration – the watchword for everything that underpins long term success in Welsh construction.

That spirit of collaboration was alive and kicking over the past few weeks as over 200 people attended CEW events to learn about the 21st Century Schools Programme. But it is a precious thing, the idea of pulling together as an integrated team, sharing knowledge and best practice.

It has to start somewhere and in Wales, the best place is our Clubs. They are the hub of Welsh construction best practice. They host many of our core events where we challenge ideas, find out about new project and explore the learning from completed schemes. So, please pass the word to colleagues, join if you are not a member and find out about what you can gain as a construction professional as well as an organisation by joining a CEW Best Practice Club.
