Right now, the world, let alone Wales seems to have turned itself upside down. Brexit, political shenanigans in Westminster, doubts about the funding of major projects and even the outstanding progress of Wales at the 2016 Euros seems wildly different from anyone’s expectations.
But two things remain constant.
The first is that eventually, the markets will find their level, concerns about investments and which projects are right and wrong will subside and our industry, which our nation relies upon to deliver the built environment the economy and our local people need, will pick up the momentum again. What’s more, that momentum will highlight the second factor – which is that Wales is building things right.
Just like Chris Coleman’s management and the passion shown by the Wales football team, Welsh construction is pursuing a style and set up that is all about commitment to best practice. Our industry doesn’t have to prove itself against European opposition in extra time, penalties or over 90-minutes. We have to prove the sceptics that favour adversarial working practices and price driven tendering that they are wrong. We have to continually educate, remind and cajole decision makers in public and private sector client organisations that value is the route to project excellence, hitting Government targets on waste, sustainability and community benefits.
We can convince any worriers and doubters by sticking to what we know best. But most all we can demonstrate that what we are advocating is right by pointing to the evidence on show in ten days’ time at the CEW 2016 Awards.
