Following on from the CEW NWBPC Member Workshop held last year we have been working behind the scenes to create an events agenda and focus for the club to move it forward and to try to create a forum that will meet the needs of its members. 

The workshop provided opportunity for NWBPC members to reflect on the position to date identifying benefits of membership, what works, what doesn’t, the future requirements and an action plan to deliver the changes. All attendees were engaged and fully participated in the workshop, demonstrating a genuine desire to reflect and position the club for the future. 

Members identified and confirmed a range of benefits including collaboration, networking and knowledge sharing; and were generally accepting of the basic components including venues, locations and timings of events. 

Future requirement identified the desire for engagement with other bodies or agencies to improve visibility of significant factors likely to influence the market e.g. government legislation, budget and procurement practice. A desire to increase membership was identified, potentially by engaging the wider core Constructing Excellence in Wales membership, as well as extending the scope to include health, care and housing. A desire to increase the number of clients was also identified. 

We are continuing to work on an action plan to address development of the components identified, which also includes developing terms of reference for the club, clarifying committee membership roles and responsibilities and developing and agreeing a programme of events; and will keep you up to date with developments in regard. 

Our first event of 2017 was held on the 26^th April 2017 and was hosted by Professor Dermot Cahill, Chairman of the Institute for Competition and Procurement Studies at Bangor University, supported by a number of his colleagues. 

The event provided a valuable insight and debate, through Q&A, into post Brexit procurement and how the landscape may change over the coming months depending upon the election results, a hard or soft Brexit and the impending relationship developments with Europe and the rest of the world. The presentation also provided an insight to the availability of procurement services and assistance to improve tendering results.

• “The Tender Review Service – How it can help your business?”  - Presented by Ceri Evans

In June we will be holding the following events, which we hope you will also be able to support:- 

9^th June 2017 – Are some places too special for any kind of development? A presentation from Dan Yates. Dan will discuss the impact that the hydroelectric development of free flowing rivers has on both the environment and local communities and will be held in conjunction with ICE Wales. Full details will be sent shortly. 

29^th June 2017, Llandudno – Sophie Howe, Future Generations Commissioner for Wales, following the event in Cardiff last November, Sophie Howe will present her challenge to the built environment sector for delivering against the Well-Being of Future Generations Act 2015.   

Booking is through CEW and it would be great to see a good attendance at both. 

The club events held and booked thus far reflect in part requirements identified in the workshop and I trust that the change in focus is appealing to all. More events for the second half of the year will be confirmed in due course.
