This is your opportunity to learn how Flintshire County Council, Lovelock Mitchell Architects, Read Construction and their other partners are delivering an Exemplar project based on the core Constructing Excellence principles of collaboration, integrated teams, committed leadership and respect for people.

In North Wales, delivery of Flintshire County Council’s schools building programme is being transformed by the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes. BIM has already helped streamline the development of Shotton Primary School by identifying potential conflicts during the construction phase. What is particularly impressive about this project is that the process is being developed by one of Wales’ smaller local authorities acting in a client and designer role, advised on BIM issues by a small local architectural practice and supported by a local SME builder working in partnership with the local authority – which goes to show that BIM is not just for the big boys.

This session will explain the processes which the team have had to develop and apply, the behavioural changes needed to make this work and the value that has been gained.
This is your opportunity to hear from:
• the local authority client and designer on their approach to the project, the value that digital modeling through BIM has brought to the project, how whole life cost implications will be managed into the future and how BIM has supported project development and the inevitable changes that have occurred.
• the local architect and how, as a small local practice, the adoption of BIM has helped to transform their organisation and deliver greater value to clients and how they have advised and supported this particular client.
• the contractors on how they are achieving all of this, what lessons have been learnt and how the use of BIM has supported project delivery.

This project was put forward as part of the Constructing Excellence in Wales Exemplar Programme so that others can learn from the actions taken by the team to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits.

Who should attend?
Clients and procurers – to learn how BIM can be used to support and improve the delivery of 21st century schools projects.
Contractors and consultants – to better understand how their application of BIM can positively support clients in developing successful projects and improving their own organisational performance.
Facilities managers and maintenance teams - to consider the impact of the design and construction stages on the whole life costs of the asset and how digital models can support the future operation of school buildings.

Refreshments and registration will be from 8.00am and the event will commence at 8.30am with a presentation by the team followed by a Q&A session. The event will conclude at approximately 9.30am and will be followed by the North Wales Best Practice Club AGM.
