Title: Design Stage Event – Cardiff EBL Exemplar development

This joint presentation hosted by the project team, CE Wales and CIHT will give the opportunity to hear the design stage presentation for the Exemplar programme and will expand on the Exemplar aspects of the £40m Eastern Bay Link project currently being constructed in the Port of Cardiff between Queensgate and Ocean Way roundabouts.
This ECI (NEC3) design and construction contract was led by Welsh Government, who have employed WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff and Corderoy as their agents. The Dawnus Ferrovial Agroman Joint Venture, who appointed Capita as lead designer and Cass Hayward as specialist bridge designer then started KS3 in January 2015.
Due to the need for early service diversions, works on site started in June 2015, even though the preliminary design was not completed for another three months. The project is due to be completed in late Spring 2017.
The team will describe the various different elements that make up the scheme including:
- Dealing with services including a major pipe jacked sewer diversion
- The installation of wick drains and construction of a surcharged embankment
- Driven & bored piling
- Extensive temporary works
- Viaduct construction using steel beams and concrete beams and parapet edge units
- Road construction including the two roundabouts
The team will also describe how collaborative working and the use of the Project Bank Account is producing positive results and the excellent work being done with regards to Community Benefits, Ecology and Sustainability.

Dewch i gyflwyniad ar y cyd gan dîm y prosiect, Adeiladu Arbenigrwydd yng Nghymru (CEW) a’r Sefydliad Siartredig Priffyrdd a Chludiant (CIHT). Mae’n gyfle ardderchog, yn y cyfnod dylunio, i glywed mwy am y prosiect enghreifftiol hwn – sef cynllun £40m i greu Cyswllt Bae Dwyreiniol (Eastern Bay Link) ym Mhorthladd Caerdydd rhwng cylchfannau Queensgate ac Ocean Way.
Gosodwyd y contract dylunio ac adeiladu ECI (NEC3) gan Lywodraeth Cymru, a gyflogodd WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff & Corderoy fel eu Asiantiaid. Dechreuodd Cyd Fenter Dawnus Ferrovial Agroman ar y gwaith KS3 yn Ionawr 2015, gan benodi Capita fel dylunwyr arweiniol a Cass Hayward fel dylunwyr pontydd arbenigol.
Gan fod raid symud rhai gwasanaethau’n fuan, dechreuodd gwaith ar y safle ym Mehefin 2015 er na chwblhawyd y dyluniad dechreuol tan dri mis yn ddiweddarach. Disgwylir gorffen y cynllun erbyn diwedd Gwanwyn 2017.
Bydd y tîm yn disgrifio gwahanol elfennau’r prosiect, yn cynnwys:
- Delio â gwasanaethau, yn cynnwys gwyro prif bibell garthffos
- Gosod draeniau wic ac adeiladu gorglawdd
- Bwrw a thurio pyst seiliau
- Llawer o weithfeydd dros dro
- Adeiladu traphont gyda thrawstiau dur, trawstiau concrit ac ymylon paraped
- Adeiladu ffyrdd, yn cynnwys dwy gylchfan
Bydd y tîm yn disgrifio sut y mae’r cydweithio a’r defnydd o Gyfrif Banc Prosiect wedi arwain at ganlyniadau da a gwaith rhagorol mewn perthynas â Budd Cymunedol, Ecoleg a Chynaliadwyedd.
