Welcome to our Weekly E-Bulletin

There is a lot of positive news buzzing about our industry now. You wouldn’t know it straightaway as there remains doubts about investment, impact of Brexit and continual discussions about infrastructure. Economic figures indicate construction output is going up, the UK Government’s housing white paper has been broadly welcomed and our own Carl Sargent AM, Cabinet Secretary for Communities and Children made an announcement last week that £20m has been set aside for housebuilding in Wales.

This week’s issue of our newsletter is full of ideas and information – again, another indication that the sector is very active and there is a great deal of positive things going on right now. None of these happen without commitment and strong minded individuals driving these projects forward. Often the hard work is very rewarding, these opportunities come with responsibilities too – all of which can help develop careers and offer an insight into a different aspect of the Welsh built environment.

Right now, we are looking for volunteers to join CEW’s Enabling Zero Waste board.

Enabling Zero Waste is a CEW initiative which aims to establish if and how the industry can achieve the zero waste targets outlined in the Welsh Government’s waste strategy document Towards Zero Waste. We work alongside the industry to identify challenges regarding achieving the targets and disseminating best practices. We currently have a mix of professions on the board and would ideally like to invite a contractor to join the team. In terms of commitment this consists of a project board meeting held once every four months.

It is worth considering please. Changes and improvements to our Welsh built environment require the input of all of us and a mix of views and objective opinions. If you are interested in joining the EZW board or finding out more then please contact Ellen Jones on 02920 493322 or ellen.jones@cewales.org.uk

And finally – are you entering the CEW Awards? If not, then please think again and why not consider being a sponsor. Think it over now, the deadline is fast approaching. These awards really help to celebrate best practice and place you on the map.
