Structural strengthening using fibre reinforced polymer composites has been used in the UK since 1996 and is an established method for strengthening concrete buildings and structures. The Concrete Society first published the design guidance note in 2000 and has recently published the updated 3rd Edition which is line with the European standards.

CRL was the first company to use FRP composites for a commercial contract in 1996 and John Drewett was a member of the Concrete Society steering group which drafted TR55.

Jon Shave has been closely involved with developing design guidance for FRP composite strengthening and represented Parsons Brinckerhoff on the Concrete Society steering group which drafted TR55.

Presentation by: John Drewett Director for Concrete Repairs Ltd. CRL and John Shave Regional Associate at Parsons Brinckerhoff.
