Don’t Miss the Retrofit Roadshow!
|
Don’t miss the Retrofit Roadshow taking place at City Hall in Cardiff on Tuesday 17th September as all the retrofit leaders from across Wales will be there. The Roadshow - targeted at the supply chain, public sector and property owners – will explore how we can improve the energy efficiency of every home and business in the country.
The Welsh Government (WG) predicts that around £1bn over the next decade is likely to be invested in improving the energy efficiency of Welsh homes. Already a series of dynamic retrofit initiatives have emerged most notably the Arbed Programme, which has seen £68 million spent on retrofitting 7,500 domestic properties across the nation. Arbed will continue to fund 10-20 schemes per year up to 2015. Furthermore as the public sector accounts for around 60% of construction projects in Wales, WG has launched a procurement strategy which aims to improve the way that public construction projects are procured in Wales. The event will explore the domestic and non-domestic challenges and opportunities by addressing: • The business case for retrofits • How Wales is meeting the retrofit challenge • Latest carbon reduction technology • Funding mechanisms and legal issues • Pilot scheme learning and innovation • Delivery of retrofit activity at scale • Skills and training • Business opportunities for the Welsh supply chain These one day events will be packed with presentations, workshops and retrofit clinics with time set aside to network, plus a comprehensive exhibition of retrofit technologies.
Key note speakers include: Opening Plenary (Peter Davies, Climate Change Commission in Wales) The Retrofit Challenge in Wales (Energy Saving Trust Wales and Wales Low/Zero Carbon Hub) Driving demand among residents (Melin Homes) Proving retrofits work (Warm Wales) Our retrofit journey (National Museum of Wales) How to finance commercial retrofit (Carbon Trust Wales) Procuring Retrofit Wales (Constructing Excellence in Wales)

North Wales Best Practice Club – Shotton Primary School “Digitally modeling a 21st Century Primary School through BIM”
|
Welsh flyer below / Hysbyseb Cymraeg Islaw Title: North Wales Best Practice Club - Shotton Primary School “Digitally modeling a 21st Century Primary School through BIM” Date: Thursday 26th September 2013 Location: Llandudno (venue to be confirmed on registration) Time: 8.00am – 9.30am – followed by the North Wales Best Practice Club AGM Cost: Free to Best Practice Club Members, £35 (+ VAT) to non-members This is your opportunity to learn how Flintshire County Council, Lovelock Mitchell Architects, Read Construction and their other partners are delivering an Exemplar project based on the core Constructing Excellence principles of collaboration, integrated teams, committed leadership and respect for people. In North Wales, delivery of Flintshire County Council’s schools building programme is being transformed by the application of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes. BIM has already helped streamline the development of Shotton Primary School, Flintshire by identifying potential conflicts during the construction phase. What is particularly impressive about this project is that the process is being developed by a small local architectural practice and a local SME builder in partnership with the local authority – which goes to show that BIM is not just for the big boys. This will explain the processes which the team have had to develop and apply, the behavioural changes needed to make this work and the value that has been gained.
This is your opportunity to hear from: • the local authority client on their approach to the project, the value that digital modeling through BIM has brought to the project, how whole life cost implications will be managed into the future and how BIM has supported project development and the inevitable changes that have occurred. • the architect and how, as a small local practice, the adoption of BIM has helped to transform their organisation and deliver greater value to clients. • the contractors on how they are achieving all of this, what lessons have been learnt and how the use of BIM has supported project delivery. This project was put forward as part of the Constructing Excellence in Wales Exemplar Programme so that others can learn from the actions taken by the team to deliver economic, social and environmental benefits.
Who should attend? • Clients and procurers – to learn how BIM can be used to support and improve the delivery of 21st century schools projects. • Contractors and Consultants – to better understand how their application of BIM can positively support clients in developing successful projects. • Facilities managers and maintenance teams - to consider the impact of the design and construction stages on the whole life costs of the asset and how digital models can support the future operation of school buildings.
Refreshments and registration will be from 8.00am and the event will commence at 8.30am with a presentation by the team followed by a Q&A session.
