Welcome to our Weekly E-bulletin

It seems that not a day goes by so far in 2016 without at least one reference to construction in the national news. Drill down into the details via our own trade media and the story has a different perspective, but whatever way it is painted, the forecast for our industry looks bright (right now, albeit with outbreaks of bad weather on the way).

Yes, we need to focus on issues such as the skills crisis; yes, we have to knuckle down and work harder to take Wales towards a zero carbon economy and deliver better results on waste management. But on the whole things are good. Certainly bigger and varied projects are being mooted. Again, this week, there was the announcement about new developments in Swansea. So, just when David Cameron appears to be doubting the idea of a tidal lagoon someone in Wales delivers a vision for the city.

Construction can deliver this vision. Indeed, if we work together to agree a vision for Wales there is no doubt our industry will be called on to turn it into a reality. If we pursue the right approach and keep on advocating best practice and a commitment to longer term value, then not only can we deliver – we can succeed as individuals and as organisations. Watkin Jones has coped well in the past few years. They have backed the values and ideals championed by CEW and their peers and now they are reaping the rewards. If you do things right everyone can benefit.
