Welcome to our weekly e-bulletin

Whatever it is that Wales needs in terms of buildings and facilities to improve its infrastructure and provide the built environment needed for our economy have to be built right. That might sound like common sense, but the thought process extends beyond just the build itself.

When a client in the private sector or public sector feels the pressing need for a new project – no matter if it is a school, housing development or transport infrastructure or a new healthcare facility – the actual requirement has to be tested and challenged first. Then the design shaped according to end user needs and tough questions have to be asked about how the facility will be physically used, for how long and by whom? Homes, roads, hospitals and schools are required to have a longer life than say a commercial office development, but all have to meet Government targets on waste, low carbon, sustainability and community benefits.

Right now housing and schools are at the forefront of our work. We are promoting the talks between developers and Government that will serve to shape our housing policy. We need to determine what kind of houses Wales needs. How are people in Wales going to live? Are our existing homes energy efficient? Is there a risk of overheating?
