The finalists in the prestigious Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Wales Awards 2016 have been revealed.

Castles, fire stations, churches and schools - just some of the buildings nominated for a prestigious design award.

A shortlist of 30 buildings has been drawn up for the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Wales Awards, 2016. The awards showcase the most inspirational regional initiatives and developments in land, property, construction and the environment.

Projects shortlisted in the annual scheme range from the conversion of a Victorian church in Barry to the multi-million-pound regeneration of a housing estate in Conwy.

Other contenders include the new entrance pavilion at Caernarfon Castle, the restoration of Cardigan Castle, the new Hirwaun Fire Station, and the impressive 10,000 Sq m Morriston Comprehensive School in Swansea.

Six category winners and a Project of the Year will be selected from the 30 shortlisted entries – to be revealed at an awards ceremony in May. Some of the winners will then compete against projects from across the UK and beyond at the overall RICS Awards in London later this year.

RICS Wales Director, Ben Collins, said: “If proof were needed of the central and broad-ranging role of property professionals in the Welsh economy and society, this list of projects is it - from cornerstones of the tourism industry, to key educational establishments, and buildings for vital public services”.

The RICS Wales Awards will be held at The Vale Resort, Cardiff on May 19th. They will be hosted by Martin Roberts, television presenter from the BBC’s Homes Under the Hammer. The awards are sponsored by Forbo Flooring Systems, Hugh James, and Sika AG, Sarnafil.
