Have we got housing policy right and what kind of homes do we really need?

Constructing Excellence in Wales, in partnership with Welsh Government’s Homes and Places team, are running workshops this month to hear directly from SME developers providing new homes in Wales. 

So far, we have engaged with over 30 Welsh SME developers, all keen to determine whether they are keen and able to offer a different delivery model to meet the housing needs in Wales. Our recent workshops in Carmarthen and Llandudno have been well attended and have provided some interesting ideas. 

Scene setting at the workshops was provided by presentations from Welsh Government’s Homes and Places team and an introduction to the business support available from Finance Wales. Delegates then discussed current barriers to their day-to-day business of delivering new homes in Wales. We also explored what policy changes could support more growth and what business support could assist in the short term. 

Our half day workshops will provide an opportunity for Welsh Government and SME developers to discuss directly their experiences of constructing new homes in Wales.
