What Kind of Wales do you Want To Build?

Welcome to our Weekly E-Bulletin

Wales what do you want? Depending on the intonation and emphasis used when asking that question it can appear flippant, or perhaps even strident. When put in context alongside discussions about the sustainability agenda, social value and inclusivity of minorities, the disabled and disadvantaged the question can provoke a major debate.

That was the thinking behind the G4C discussion last week.

CEW is major influencer of Government policy and decision making by private and public construction clients alike. We need these individuals to consider what the Wales of ten, 15 and even 50 years hence will be like because in 2064 Welsh people will be living and using facilities designed and built right now. That’s why the questions around how we build are just as important as what we build.

Last week we also saw the unveiling of the new BBC HQ in Cardiff. It ticks a lot of the boxes we advocate – particularly its BREEAM aspirations. It's features will not be appropriate everywhere in Wales. We have to build and design what is needed and what is right for the country. That means accommodating many different views; it means compromise and it means careful planning. Above all, to achieve the long term goals set out by Welsh Government and that will make a world class built environment, it requires collaboration.
