As part of our drive towards a more circular economy CEW are hosting a series of events to help the industry understand how to turn the theory into practice.  The first of these events looks at reuse.

Reuse the action or practice of using something again, whether for its original purpose or to fulfil a different function.  Reuse offers a huge potential for social, environmental and economic benefits, however it’s not always easy to deliver. This event highlights current Welsh Government policy with Dr Andy Rees Head of Waste Strategy Branch Water, Waste, Resource Efficiency & Flood Division showcasing best practice examples being delivered, these include furniture reuse/remanufacture and national road planing reuse. 

Furniture reuse Furniture reuse and remanufacture is major circular economy opportunity, brining environmental, social and economic benefits.  Speakers from Ministry for Furniture (previously Remploy) and GS Flooring will explain how the furniture reuse process works in practice, drawing from examples with Public Health Wales and City and County of Swansea.  

Planings reuse The Quarry Products Association (QPA) and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) developed a guidance document to promote the sustainable reuse of asphalt road planings, which has now been accepted by Natural Resources Wales (NRW).  The methodology demonstrates when aggregate produced from source segregated asphalt road planings has been fully recovered, meaning it has ceased to be waste. If the material has been fully recovered, there is certainty of use and thus is no longer waste its subsequent movement and use will not be subject to the requirements of the waste regulatory control.

Future events will look into digital information, materials and procurement.
