Coed Cymru: Do You Value Welsh Timber?
Cardiff University: UK's first 'smart' carbon positive energy house
Zero Carbon Hub: Builders Bible?
Welsh Government: Energy Efficiency for Wales

Welcome to our Weekly E-Bulletin

Even with the summer holidays approaching the pace within our vibrant Welsh construction sector does not let up.

What’s more we have once again put a marker down as a leader of the UK’s built environment. The news about the Solcer House official launch was captured by many of the mainstream TV and radio broadcasters last week – all of whom were reporting the news the house generates more energy than it consumes. But of course, within the industry in Wales we already knew that because of the award winning work by the University of Cardiff and its team behind the Solcer House at the CEW Awards in June.

It is a great example of design, energy efficiency and great building – all completed in 16 weeks!

It will be interesting to see if in future editions of the Zero Carbon Hub’s Builders’ Book there are details of the Solcer House. The Builders’ Book is a great handy onsite guide to building better and building low carbon homes right now, but surely all of us should be paying attention to the learning and performance of the Solcer House.

It will also be interesting to see what materials play a stronger part in the future of Welsh building as our low carbon world is taking shape. We think there remains a central part for timber, especially Welsh timber. Hence why we are backing the Coed Cymru.

Let us know what you think the future holds.
