Constructing Excellence in Wales held a launch event last Tuesday for the CEW Enabling Zero Waste project

The CEW Waste Programme team launched it's innovative pilot project - Enabling Zero Waste - informing the industry about the viability of zero waste to landfill in new build, refurbishment and demolition projects.

The launch involved achievements, challenges, obstacles and solutions and provide learning opportunities and develop understanding of the feasibility of the Welsh Government Zero Waste aspiration.

We introduced four fascinating and innovative projects that an industry wide recruitment process, have been chosen to demonstrate a different set of challenges.The major contractors behind the developments of the:

  • Castleton Care Home (Castleoak Ltd)
  • Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea (John Weaver Contractors Ltd)
  • Ice Arena Wales, Cardiff Bay (Kier Ltd)
  • Millbank Primary School, Ely, Cardiff (W.R.W Construction Ltd) 

Representatives from the organisations described their distinctive projects and offer an insight into how the challenge of achieving zero waste to landfill effects day to day practical and commercial operations. The launch detailed updates about on-site waste management interventions and the development of a Building Information Model for each participating site.
