Title: Morriston Comprehensive School – Exemplar - Post Construction
Date: Thursday 2nd July 2015
Location: Swansea
Time: 3.30pm – approx. 6pm
Cost: Free
The rebuild and refurbishment of Morriston Comprehensive School represents the highest priority project in the City and County of Swansea's Quality in Education (QEd) 2020 Programme.
The project offers a unique opportunity to raise standards across the age and ability range in line with the Welsh Government transformational agenda, while at the same time improving the poor condition of the existing school buildings.
Lessons learnt from historically adversarial and poorly performing projects drove the client to a more collaborative and integrated approach to project delivery. This project represents a further step change with greater focus on engagement with the school end users, with the primary objective of raising standards.
Challenges for the project team to overcome included:
- Financial – securing 30% council funding during a difficult economic period.
- Procurement –aligning the council’s approach with regional procurement arrangements across South West Wales.
- Logistical – programming, health and safety and operational challenges through construction on a live school site around the existing school footprint.
- Delivering a high level of community benefits.
This event sets out the achievements of the project delivery team during the construction phase and builds on an earlier pre-construction event where the team shared its aspirations for the project and its process for meeting these aspirations. This event is very much “the proof of the pudding”!
Why should you attend?
If you’re involved in, or are likely to be involved with similar scale projects or schemes that face comparable restrictions and challenges then you need to hear directly from the team involved and their client and apply the lessons they learned to your own projects.
Education, healthcare and other major public and private schemes all face similar issues and can all learn from each other. That is the purpose behind showcasing the CEW Exemplar programme – come to the Morriston Comprehensive School Exemplar event on 2nd July and help us share construction best practice.
Refreshments and registration will be from 3.30pm and the event will commence at 4pm with a presentation followed by a site visit. PPE will not be required. The event will conclude at approximately 6pm.
How to Book: This event is free of charge but you must register in advance. To reserve your place please email CEWales Events stating your full contact details and the names of all delegates wishing to attend. Substitution of delegates can be made at any time.
Non-attendance by any registered delegate will be charged £20 unless you have informed us prior to the event.
In order to reduce wastage at our events CEW operates a policy of only notifying venue details when issuing registration confirmation. This ensures we only cater for delegates who have registered and don’t over order for individuals who may or may not turn up on the day.
