Nurturing Nature

David Wilson Homes has completed a new development built alongside the Neath Tennant Canal, an area of natural beauty homed and steeped in local industrial heritage. Situated in Jersey Marine, Glas y Dorlan (which means Kingfisher in Welsh) is a residential development of a variety of 3, 4 and 5 bedroom terraced and detached homes at the gateway to Swansea Bay.

The 81 dwelling development was constructed in just under two years and includes private as well as social housing options. David Wilson Homes (part of Barratt Developments PLC) is proud of the superior quality of their homes and their company-wide sustainability policy seeks to integrate sustainable business practice into all elements of the business.

With respect for the environment at the heart of commercial operations, the company has nurtured an effective relationship with Recipro Wales, a collaborative project between Constructing Excellence in Wales, Swansea Care and Repair and the inventors of Recipro-UK the concept is to divert surplus materials (that may otherwise be disposed of in landfill) to charitable organisations and community projects.

As the construction phase was coming to an end, Assistant Site Manager at the Glas Y Dorlan site, Nick Keitch made Recipro Wales aware of a variety of good quality specialist construction materials that the company wanted to donate.

Recognising that new developments have a huge impact on existing communities, David Wilson Homes were keen to support community groups, schools and social enterprises who can to register to use the Recipro Wales service and access donated materials at a heavily discounted cost to complete projects using unwanted but useful materials which would have otherwise been disposed of.

Nick Keitch commented “As well as completing developments on time and to budget, one of my major aims as an Assistant Site Manager is to minimise waste and reduce energy. Recipro Wales is an excellent resource allowing us to donate small quantities of surplus materials for use by local projects”.
