Reuse and recycle are key terms in the planning of a building project nowadays. No matter what the scale, or the use of the facility making sure the materials used are sustainable, that waste is minimised and what cannot be used recycled in some manner are crucial to the carbon foot print of a project as well as the future of the Welsh built environment.

Waste management and achieving a low carbon society go hand in hand – hence why design of a project has a profound impact on the deconstruction of a facility when it reaches the end of its life. Because, whilst we sometimes find it sad when old buildings are pulled down, schools, hospitals, houses and offices age, tire or are simply not fit for purpose just like any other product in 21st century Wales. That is why the topic of design and deconstruction is crucial to the future of Welsh construction and our society.
