Introduction from Milica Kitson, CEW

Spring time should always be an exciting time for business and the construction industry. Welsh construction is at a tipping point – there is huge potential for our housing sector to benefit from retrofit work and there is a lot of debate on which major infrastructure projects to invest in and how they will be procured. On top of this, the (hopefully) better weather allowing more work on site, we now also know the UK Government is backing more infrastructure spend.

The next quarter is full of potential – not least for the shortlisted entrants to the 2013 CEW Awards. The CEW Awards are a great benchmark for the commitment of Welsh construction professionals to collaborative working and the desire in Wales to create a built environment that is sustainable, in terms of waste, low carbon and benefits to local people. Please keep up the good work and continue to share your best practice with us and the rest of the industry.

The first meeting of the Major Project Delivery Task Group took place on Wednesday 17th April at the St. David’s Hotel in Cardiff Bay. Thirty top business leaders from across the sector in Wales decided this was important enough to give a day of their time to assist with the delivery of the Wales Infrastructure Investment Plan.  It was an excellent start and has set the tone for future meetings. Watch this space for more news and please put 5th July in your diary for the CEW Awards.
