Welsh Government has awarded over £1M to CEW to fund the waste programme for another two and a half years.

Last week, Carl Sargeant, the Minister for Natural Resources, announced the organisations who will share £21.875m of Welsh Government core funding from the Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate to support their work. The good news is that CEW has been allocated £1.186M.

The competitive grant process has seen 16 organisations successful. The funding has been awarded to these organisations for a period of two and a half years, allowing them to plan more effectively than with an annual allocation. The Minister commented that he was pleased with the wide mix from wildlife organisations and champions of sustainable land management to those reducing waste and encouraging recycling. He reflected that Wales is amongst the best in Europe on recycling rates and, through the Well Being of Future Generations Act, are world leaders in sustainability.

Welsh construction touches upon almost all aspects of life in Wales, from regeneration projects and new build to nature conservation, hence the CEW work on waste is hugely important.
